Gmina council

Gmina council constitutes a decision-making and controlling body. The term ‘gmina council’ is also referred to the councils of cities with powiat status.

The tenure of gmina council begins on the day of election and lasts 4 years. Gmina council consists of :

1) fifteen councillors in gminas with not more than 20, 000 inhabitants,

2) twenty one councillors in gminas with not more than 50, 000 inhabitants,

3) twenty three councillors in gminas with not more than 100, 000 inhabitants,

4) twenty five councillors in gminas with not more than 200, 000 inhabitants plus three councillors for every next 100, 000 inhabitants, however, not more than forty five councillors altogether.
